A renovation adventure in Northumberland.
Pneumatic drills start again…
So it’s time to start digging out the floors in what was cottage no.1, so the pneumatic drills have started again… well sort of!
More destruction
And now for phase two of phase 1 – digging out the floors in the other half of the cottage, insulating and getting some heating in – plus a bathroom, 2 bedrooms and utility room.
Plastering perfection
No more mouse holes… as I like to call the holes in the ceiling – thanks to Pete you can’t even see they were there… apart from our poor partial painting.
Kitchen up and running
Now the kitchen is fully functional we couldn’t be happier… it’s the biggest kitchen we’ve ever had and it’s such a joy to cook in compared to the little black room at the end we’ve been using for the last 3 months… which is now being demolished – Yay!
Storm water
We’ve been much luckier than most with the volume of rain and high winds – which is lucky as we have holes in the roof and chimney at the moment.
Kitchen update
It was a slightly depressing December as far as progress was concerned…
Finished fireplace
There’s nothing better on a cold winters day than curling up on the sofa in front of a roaring fire… well we don’t have the sofa yet as the kitchen is stacked in that room but we do have an amazing new/old inglenook and wood burner.
And finally… heat
It’s an exciting week in Northumberland… the underfloor heating has been turned on for the first time and we almost have a warm house – well half a house!
First frost
Our first real frost in the countryside, it’s beautiful but with no heating or hot water it’s a little chilly!
We have floors!
The past month has flown by and it may not look like we’ve got very far but we now have floors, insulated floors!
A little more destruction
How does the old saying go… it’s going to get worse before it gets better! Well more floors have been dug up, more walls have been pulled down… but rooms are starting to take shape.
Fireplace finds
I love it when you uncover something that’s been hidden for decades…
