And finally… heat
It’s an exciting week in Northumberland… the underfloor heating has been turned on for the first time and we almost have a warm house – well half a house!
The wonderful team from DPC Screeding were so efficient at laying our new floors. We used a quick drying screed so we could turn the heating on sooner, a standard screed takes 6 weeks to dry and if no one lives there it’s not a problem – but we needed heat sooner so we’ve used one that dries in 4-5 days!
Watching them pour it and then get such a smooth level by hand was quite mesmerising!
And then a week later we can finish installing the boiler and in about a week (we can turn it up 5 degrees a day so the floors don’t crack) we should have actual heat!
I’m soooooooo looking forward to a warm house.
There’s lots going to be happening in the next couple of weeks, the roofers are here to make us completely watertight, the electricians are coming back for second fix, the kitchen is being installed and the tiled floor laid, the inglenook fireplace is being opened and a wood burner installed… soon it might look more like a house than a building site! Exciting times…
… and then we start the other side of the cottage!
