We have floors!
The past month has flown by and it may not look like we’ve got very far but we now have floors, insulated floors!
Concrete was poured, and the holes from air vents under the wood floor in the bedroom were filled in (no wonder it felt drafty in there as you could see daylight!) – and we even found what we think is the original back step – in the bedroom – which means the bedroom might be a slightly later addition to the cottage. We’re still not quite sure how old the building is – the first census data is 1841 but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t built before then, just that people either weren’t living in it or didn’t complete the census!
The stud walls went up – one seperating the plant room and toilet from the kitchen, and one which will be a little ante room to our bedroom which we’ve kept at one end of the house, with the spare bedrooms at the other.
The underfloor heating pipes have been laid and now we’re just waiting for the screed to be poured. The boiler has been installed, the gas cylinders delivered and in a week we can start turning the heating on a degree each day – we might be warm by Christmas which would be lovely as today it’s -3!
Lots going to be happening over the next few weeks so we’ll be posting a lot more. Got to have the roof fixed (scaffolding now up!), plaster walls, finish the electrics and the kitchen gets delivered next week.
We might start looking more like a home soon!
