Pneumatic drills start again…
So it’s time to start digging out the floors in what was cottage no.1, so the pneumatic drills have started again… well sort of!
The builders moved back in with their pneumatic drills to break out the old concrete floors in cottage 1 ready to lower, pour new concrete, insulate and lay the underfloor heating… so work got started and we got this far… the skips filled up and now almost two weeks later all work has stopped as we’re still waiting on the skip company to come and swop them – so frustrating when there’s nothing you can do about it.
But the plan is to break out the floors and dig down (further than the other side as the cottage runs slightly up a hill) and at the last minute pull out the bathroom so we’ll be calling on our lovely neighbours for showers for a couple of weeks! There will be a temporary toilet fitted in what will be the cloakroom, temporary because the other half of the underfloor heating pipes run through this room from the manifolds so they can’t pour the floor until it’s all done.
They’ve left a bit by the second front door so they can get the wheelbarrows out to the skips, and this door is the one that will eventually go and then this door becomes a window.
I just hope the skips finally get swopped tomorrow so we can get back on with the work!
We’ll also have to see what’s behind this fireplace… if it’s the same as in the living room and the stone lintels are still in one piece we might reinstate the open inglenook.
It’s currently got boards and plaster which could mean anything, we’re hoping it’s just the damp walls from the leaking chimney – you can also see the damp wall from this on the pic above of the fireplace on the other side of this one.
