A renovation adventure in Northumberland.
A dusty mess
As the cottage has no heating so no existing pipework we’ve decided underfloor heating is the way to go.
The demolition begins
There’s been lots of posts about the garden while we decided a plan of action for the cottage, and now it’s time to start phase 1…
Veggie updates
So pleased with how the veggie garden is coming along, lots of potatoes, salad, radishes, peppers, chillis, courgettes…. and this is just from a late planted, temporary patch.
Humshaugh Village Show
It wouldn’t be countryside living without a village summer show.
The Homestead Gathering
August Bank Holiday was spent at a fabulous little music festival, The Homestead Gathering, in Chollerton.
The day the rain came
It’s been a busy month or two, with floods, festivals and village fetes.
Growing season
The vegetable patches are coming along nicely since we stopped the rabbit from getting in nibble everything.
Jumping pheasant
Now this one was a first for us… our friendly pheasant has discovered our bird feeder and it turns out he loves it – easy pickings if you can jump!
Flying the nest
Our swallow chicks have flown the nest… but just before they left we got some footage of them squishing their nest and flapping around.
The Chainsaw
We took advantage of the dry weather to get the chainsaw out and attack the trees that were growing far too close to the cottage.
The Birds
While we wait for things to start moving on the cottage, we’ve become avid bird watchers after setting up a little feeding and bathing area in front of our motion sensor camera.
Hungry rabbit
We must be doing something right as a hungry little rabbit decided he liked our radishes.
