The Birds

Jul 2019

While we wait for things to get moving with the cottage, it seems we’ve become avid bird watchers.

After setting up a feeding station and bird bath in front of our motion sensor camera we’ve been catching some fantastic shots of all our feathered visitors.

We’ve seen woodpeckers flying around over the past few weeks and they’ve really taken to the peanuts and now spend time every day in our garden… here’s a father and juvenile filling their bellies. Google (other search engines are available!) told us that the male has the red area at the back of his head, juveniles have a red cap and females don’t have any red – haven’t seen mum yet!

We’ve also got so many small birds, and they’re quite friendly and like to feed together.

But we do have some quite scary looking jackdaws and nothing else comes near when they decide they’re hungry. We think we had some of these nesting inside one of the unused chimney stacks… maybe this is parent and juveniles!

And one last video of the beautiful woodpecker in flight, just look at those feathers.
