Meeting the local wildlife
This week we’ve been meeting some of the locals. The cottages haven’t been lived in for many years so we’re probably quite an unwelcome surprise.
We’ve got a very friendly pair of pheasants that like to spend time in the garden and occasionally stare through the windows to see what we’re up to! Here’s Mr pheasant having a look around…
And then there’s the cute rabbits, or maybe it’s hares, they don’t really come close enough to see – but the cute little jumps and fluffy tails are so cute!
We have a beautiful pair of swifts or swallows nesting in the outhouse – I keep trying to get a video but they’re ridiculously nippy! We don’t know if they’ve got eggs or chicks yet as we don’t want to get too close, and not sure who gets more of a fright if we’re getting something out and they fly in – they’re blinking quick at u-turns and haven’t hit us once!
We’ve also got rooks (at least we think they’re rooks – it’s big and black so there’s probably quite a few things it could be and we’re not up to speed on our birds!) nesting in one of the older chimney breasts. We can hear the chicks chirping especially when mum brings back a juicy worm, let’s hope they’ve fledged before the roofers come to stop the leaks!
