Brrrrrrrrr
It was -10 one night last week and barely got above freezing most days but that does make for some lovely pics.
One of the not so good things about winter is frozen and burst pipes… the first snow a couple of weeks ago brought -10 and we were rudely woken on a Saturday morning by the smoke alarms… running through the house in my pjs trying to find the fire to be met by water pouring the smoke alarm in the utility room.
The pipes from the unvented cylinder to the bathroom had sprung a leak. Thankfully it started coming through the smoke alarm and woke us or we could have had a massive flood… luckily there was very little damage and even the ceilings have dried out without falling down.
Now everything has 5 times as much insulation that our plumber thinks would survive permafrost We do open the roof hatch to allow some heat up there when it gets really cold. Eventually when we redo the roof we’ll insulate the rafters to keep the pipes toasty.
Back to the lovely winter wonderland outside. We built a snowman and even put lights on him at night so we could see him.
The rise and fall of our snowman
What a change a few days makes, the sun is shining and the only thing left of our snowman is a carrot and some rocks.
