Taking shape
Things are starting to take shape. Having not lived in this side of the cottage since Christmas we’d forgotten that it wasn’t in the best of shape… the plaster is mostly blown and it’s the original horse hair so very dusty.
When we removed the old tiles from the bathroom and utility walls half the plaster fell off with them. Some back to the original plaster work, and some right back to the stone.
We currently have the drainage channel along the back which is about half way up the wall, it keeps this wall slightly damp. After phase 2 when we dig back and divert the water, this wall should completely dry out, but until then…
The stud walls went in for the bathroom, glued to the floor as it’s all underfloor heating… and as the plaster is blown on the other walls Mike stripped off the loose ceiling plaster so the walls could be boarded and plastered.
The whole ceiling will also be done as the roof was leaking so it’s a bit of a wave up there. There’s a big whole in it at the moment, made to fit the water tank up that will feed the bathroom.
As we’re tiling the floor and walls in the bathroom the decision was made to build an internal stud wall with a gap to allow the air to circulate, and with damp proof membranes so stop the damp getting to the wood and the plasterboard.
Plus as these walls are old and not exactly straight it was needed to be able to tile properly. I think it was about 3 inches out at one side. First fix plumbing is also in.
Looking great! You’re not going to know yourselves when everything is finished!
