A renovation adventure in Northumberland.
Partridge vs crow
For the last few months we’ve had a cute pair of red legged partridges hanging out in the garden. They’re not friendly like the pheasant (which hasn’t been back to see us since he was chased off by another male in March) but they love the bird feeder and hate crows…
Spring has finally sprung
With the cold spring it’s taken a while to get things going but we’re finally looking like we might have lots of lovely veg this year.
Wildlife bonanza
Not a lot’s been happening inside the cottage as I’ve been recuperating from having my gallbladder removes… so instead here’s some of the local wildlife we’re lucky enough to watch from the window.
Storage galore
We’ve been talking for ages about building some storage into the little room before the bedroom for a wardrobe – for two years we’ve shared a chest of drawers and lived out of suitcases for everything else.
First impressions
We thought we’d start to tackle the hallway and it needed everything, new ceiling, plastering, flooring, and as this is the point where the different screed pours meet it also need a decoupling membrane to ensure the tiles don’t crack with any movement with the heat in the floor.
It’s the little things
We’ve still got things like flooring to decide on but as there’s so many options we’re just living with the screed and some rugs to help with the dust. But it’s finishing the small things that make a room start to feel complete… and a lick of paint!
Brrrrrrrrr
It was -10 one night last week and barely got above freezing most days but that does make for some lovely pics.
Missing in action…
It’s been quite a while since our last update… we’ve been absolutely fine and just plodding along slowly during the many lockdowns. I really don’t know where the months have gone!
Tiled from tip to toe
The bathroom is now tiled from top to bottom and it looks great. Feels quite luxorious…
Wildlife makes you smile and cry
Nature can be very cruel sometimes… but it’s also amazing in equal measure!
Door no.2 is gone
Now that the floors are all in and finished it’s time to remove the second front door from the original cottage no.1 and replace it with a window.
Mr pheasant has a family
Our friendly pheasant hadn’t been around for a few days and we thought maybe he’d gone to wildlife heaven… but no… he’d been busy having a family… and he’s brought them to visit us 🙂
